I was a big fan of Tintin and Asterix, acquiring a basic understanding of the stories from the pictures instead of reading the exchange of dialogues among the characters. My dad often came home with those big, thin copies of the comic versions of both, which was one of the reading materials we really enjoyed having around the household.
